Opening Ceremonies, the Parade of State Flags with the Marine Band playing The Stars and
Stripes-Virginia with
Linda Calvin, President General. Linda was in the John Haupt Chapter as a young lady
and was Virginia's Secretary during
one of her 3 or 4 stints as Chapter Regent-The American Flag comes down from the ceiling
and it really is an inspiring moment.

L-R Opening night program was
Bill Conti, Shelby Conti's very famous husband who does the musical scores
for many TV shows and conducts the Academy Awards Orchestra(Shelby is seated just to the
right of the front row
empty chair-I am just too far away for a good picture) US 2 and then Margaret Bates
surprised us when she showed up.

Caught the
Flag in action this time. They process every night and the Flag comes down each night.

The
program on National Defense Night was this Trio and they were also very good.

I got
this picture of Linda as she was processing during a morning business session and we could
set on the floor.

We are now
another day and at the Ventitian-WOW what a beautiful place. We went on a Romance
Package to tour the Marriott Hotel Condos, the pics below are of their accomodcations that
one could
purchase if they wished, we didn't but had a free lunch at the Venetian ( really nice
right above the inside
Condola ride so we were serenaded many times and were supposed to go on it but by the
middle of the afternoon
the lines were so long we decided to pass. Also had a ticket to Madame Trousseaus
Museum-Those
pictures follow.

We

On the left is
the latest newest Hotel-Casino complex being built to finish in 2010-8 to 10 thousand
workers there during the week, and yet the Cabbies Vegas is feeling the recession, kind of
hard
to believe when one sees the crowds and the ching ching of the Casinos. On Friday night we
saw Jay Leno
at the Mirage, 2 hours of stand up Comedy, well worth the money.

The last time
I was in Vegas was 1971 and stayed at Ceasars Palace-Joe Louis was alive and I guess he
was being paid
to sit around the Casino and make us all feel important or something anyway couldn't pass
up the Photo-OP.

In 1971 spent
a lot of time at what was then the Pool area and called the Garden Of the Gods, still is
today
but I must say it may be more elaborate but maybe there is a Recession because there were
not nearly
the number of people out there today as back then-still beautiful, more elaborate but not
as much sunshine
because Ceasars now consists of some tall towers around this area.

Because these
hotels and Casinos are so big-this day after we had lunch Virginia spent time sitting,
people watching as we were spending the last night taking in the Bette Midler Show here at
the
Coliseum theater-She was simply marvelous but of course they don't allow pictures. On
Saturday night
we saw the Follies at the Tropicana where we stayed. A great trip, a lot of walking and
something everyone should
do at least once in their lifetime, I think.
Replumbing
our Town Home in Early November-2008

Ok! This
is how we spent Election week and Virginia's
Birthday day having our abode replumbed to eliminate
a very bad water leak. Of course the nice thing about
renting is that this was all paid by the landlord in addtion to
giving us
2 months free rent, a nice time of the year for that so
we suffer the inconvenience for awhile.
