Activities 2009

The picture below taken when President-General of the DAR was on her
official visit to Kansas in early May 2009. She was a member of Virginia's
John Haupt Chapter in the 1970's, moved to California and is the person
in charge of all the DAR members in the USA and World wide also.

The first week in July 2009 we went to Anaheim CA.to attend the International contest of
the Barbershop Singers Association. Virginia's son Bob and Grandson Brian sing in the
Medal winning Chorus from Denver the "Sound of the Rockies" They placed fourth
again this year. Brian's quartet "McPhly" in it's first contest placed 14th out of 50 quartets competing.

The pic below was taken the day before we left the Barbershop Contest
and Scott came over from Long Beach to hang out with us by the pool
at the Atrium Hotel near the John Wayne Airport. He also came over
to the contest one day before.

I am beginning to add to our Family Website on this 20th day of July 2009, it could be considered a sad day, but this is the beginning of what will be a New Normal for Virginia and myself. She was moved to the Kansas Rehab Hospital after a week in Stormont Vail, having been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and also Diabetes. She is doing well and is on the way to recovery. I begin with a picture of her with Bob and Brian and will add more as I get them from others. Thanks to Grandson Brady Swenson the Family Website is going to continue as long as I can do it.

Ann Palmer took this on Friday July 17, 2009. Virginia is in her 4th day of recovery from the diagnosis as explained above this picture. Other pics were taken and I will have Ann send them later and if any others were taken maybe I can get them also. We hope she will be able to recuperate in the next 10 to 20 days and be able to come home. La Casa Grande has put side rails on the steps going upstairs and also a guard rail on the wall of her bathroom today. When Ann gets back from San Francisco we will be looking into a person who can cook the kind of food that Virginia may need, so the era of the New Normal is underway. This term was coined by Cary Tamburro and Scott Swenson last Saturday after the other family had left. This page may change in the future as time permits. If this doesn't work I may have to seek further hep from Brady. The site is now being built using Brady and Alicia's Server and only cost's $9.95 a year as opposed to what I was using and couldn't get to work on my Laptop. So many thanks to all and the Good Lord will Bless us all with good health and happiness in this 21st Century.

Below we have Mike Swenson, wife Char with Brady and wife Alicia, and Blake.

October 10, 2009-KU-Iowa State. Having a great time watching the Hawks win
41-36 another Homecoming game in Lawrence. I remember back in 1945 I had
a date with a gal I had met at a Mixer, that's a dance to the folks today and
it was at the Iowa State game but I bet there weren't more than a 2000 fans there that day. I never dated her again and then off to the Marines in early 1946.
