William was born in Shropshire, England . His wife Sarah was born in the city of Nottingham, England and they came to America in 1854 from Nottingham. At that time they had six children. They settled in Claridon Township, Marion County, Ohio, where they resided for fourteen years. They then moved to Illinois for three years and on to Kansas, where they homesteaded a farm near Netawaka, Brown County,  KS and added three more children to the family. William fenced the land and built a house and barn with the help of his sons. The barn is still standing. Several of the boys moved to nearby towns after marriage and Mary Ann, having met a boy on the next farm, William Henry Wetzel, married and moved to Leavenworth in 1874.
The Berridge family in England lived first in Market Overton and later in Nottingham. They really lived on a small farm just outside of town, but attended church in the city. The following is a picture of the barn in Netawaka and the church in Nottingham.
