Little
These monuments are placed in Newburyport MA. in honor of the First Settlers George Little
(1615-1694) He was born and lived in London England. Alice was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. George was a Tailor and lived on Unicorn Street, near London Bridge. He came to Newbury in 1640 on the ship Bevis. Alice had come to America from Southhampton with the Dummers on the ship Bevis in 1638. She and her two brothers were servants of the Dummers. The Poore children had been orphaned and were under the guardianship of the Dummers. This information was from a letter written by Chief Justice Samuel Sewall in 1684 to his uncle, Stephan Dummer, then living in Hampshire. The descendants of George Little have formed a Family organization, called George Little Family Association (GLFA) and have met three times during the 1990's at Newburyport MA. where George Little built his home. It is one of the three oldest working farms with original homes in the USA, which is and always has had a Little family living in it. During the reunions the families have always allowed the attendees to tour the homes. they still have and are using some of the utensils and furnishings of George Little. George and his wife Alice are buried in the graveyard adjoining The First Church of Newbury MA. This is a

(1657-1691) Moses was a town collector, a soldier in King Phillip's War. The cause of his death was Smallpox. He was born and died in Newbury, Essex CO. MA. (1681-1765) Tristram was a farmer. He and his wife were born and died in Newbury, MA. Son of Tristram and Sarah Little Deacon Enoch
Little Sr. (1728-1816) Enoch and Hannah were both born in Newbury, MA and both are buried at the Corser Hill Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. Enoch Little Sr. was a member of the old South Church of Newbury, MA. NSDAR recognized him for Public Service in the American Revolution from NH. Ref. Little Jr.(1763-1848) Enoch was born in Newbury, MA. and Polly in Atkinson, NH. They are both buried in Corser Hill Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. NSDAR recognized Enoch for Public Service in the American Revolution from NH. Virginia Swenson has a booklet of the commeration of the 150th Anniversary of the Webster Congregational Society and in it is a sketch of the Enoch Little house built in 1790. it took about a year to complete. The bricks, shingles and hardware were all made by hand. The 150th Anniversary was in 1954 and the house was being lived in by the 5th Generation, Raymond and Ruth Sawyer.

(1792-1838) They were born born in Boscawen, NH. Henry is buried in Peoria, IL. and Susan ia buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Granville, OH. Henry and Susan were 1st Cousins. In 1836 they moved west with their 4 children. They crossed the State of NY. on the Erie Canal and then across Lake Erie by Steamboat and on to Peoria IL. in a Covered Wagon. They lived in Peoria and Liverpool IL. and he died a few years later. Henry was a school teacher, surveyor and farmer at Boscawen, NH where he also owned a Saw Mill. he exeled as a player of the Bass-Viol and was President of a local Music Society in Boscawen. Little (1817-1911) Albert was born in Webster, NH. and Nancy was born in Indianapolis, IN. They are both buried in Girard Cemetery Girard, KS. A.G."s schooling to Common Schools followed by farming in his early life. He learned the Carpenter's Trade at which he worked until 1852. Afterwards he was a mechanic and dealer in Musical Instruments. He traveled on the road selling and repairing pianos and organs. He first moved to Peoria and then to Liverpool and 1839, then to Altoona, Knox CO. IL. in 1866. In 1884 he moved to Girard, Crawford CO. KS. He had married Jane when he lived in Liverpool and they had 10 children. He joined the Congregational Church in 1835 and was a Trustee, later in Girard he became a Presbyterian. During the Civil War he was an Enrolling Officer for Fulton, CO. IL. It was a strong anti-union District and his life was threatened by "Copperheads" many times while enrolling men. He was a lifelong Republican casting his first vote for William Henry Harrison. He was a charter Member and officer of the Altoona IOOF Lodge #511. He was a total abstainer from liquor and tobacco. he was a great reader and interested in family history. He contributed the history of his branch of the Little Family, contained in the book "History of Boscawen and Webster" by Charles Carleton Coffin pgs 578-584. Nancy Jane moved with her parents to Fulton CO, IL. when she was 7 years old and she died of heart disease in 1901. Daughter of A.G. and Nancy Little Martha (Mattie)
