Rollo  reigned in Normandy 911 to 933.  He was a Norwegian, a huge man with extremely long legs.   They were so long that the largest horse could carry him astride so he walked wherever he went.  In 911 Rollo and his Viking Fleet moved up the river Seine and prepared to sack the town of Rouen.  The area of Gall (France) had enjoyed an organized existence for 500 years.  Christianity triumphed and Rouen was the center of a new Province.  The Archbishop of Rouen met Rollo and made a deal.  Rollo and followers could stay, settle down and have land rights.  In return Rollo was to protect Rouen from other Viking raids.  Rollo was given Lordship of all lands in Normandy.  He was the first Duke or Count of Normandy.  It wasn't easy for Rollo to keep his promise.  He led raids deep into Frankish heartland's.  Soon he controlled area reaching as far west as the river Vire.  Rollo and his followers lived in Normandy for the next 150 years where they mingled and married French Catholic women and became French in speech, culture and political ideas.
