Sewall William Sewall (
-1540) William was born in Coventry, England, Warwickshire. According to Memoirs by Cilley and Longfellow, page 35, it says William Sewall's ancestry is traced before the Conquest to a Saxon "Thane" who spelled his name "Saswald". Son of William and Matilda Sewall Rev. Henry Sewall
Sr. (1544-1628) He was born in Coventry, England and Margaret was born in Middleton. Both are buried in Coventry. Henry was a wealthy linen draper in Coventry and Mayor from 1589-1606. He owned great possessions of land and at the place of his residence built and owned a church. Son of Rev. Henry and Margaret Sewall Sr. Henry Sewall Jr.
(1576-1657) Henry was born in Coventry, England, St. Michaels Parish and is buried in Rowley MA. Henry Jr. and his family immigrated in 1634 on the "Elizabeth and Dorcas" ship to Ipswich, MA. Then moved to Newbury in 1635, being very wealthy and staunch Puritans. Son of Henry and Ann Sewall Jr. Rev. Henry Sewall
III (1614-1700) Henry was born in Manchester, England, Lancashire and Jane was born in Bishopstoke, England, Hampshire. They were both buried in Newbury, MA. Henry had come to America in 1634 with his parents. Wintered in Ipswich and moved to Newbury in the spring of 1635. his father had given him a outfit of servants and cattle and 500 acres of land in Newbury. Also valuable property in Coventry, England upon his marriage to Jane. Henry III was a Freeman 17 May 1637. He returned to England and resided some years and some of his children were born there. In England, he was a member of the clergy. He came back to Massachusetts before 1648 and died at the age of 86. In his will he bequeathed to his son-in-law and daughter Ann, a tract of land with a house on it commonly known as High Field with a parcel of meadow containing about 8 acres.
